Mr Glenn Peacey, Programme Manager Hampshire Superfast Broadband Programme, explained that the existing published plan (wave 1 – 90% coverage by end 2015) excludes most of Bentworth but they are currently planning the next wave (95% coverage by end 2017). He would expect cabinet 12 near the village green to be included within this plan. BT will notify him by the end of the year for certain and the public will know before Spring 2015 whether Bentworth is or is not included and, If it is, the planned date for completion. We could expect this to be somewhere between end 2015 (earliest) and end 2017 (latest).
There was a short discussion on self-funding. As far as upgrading BT phone connections were concerned, BT would only consider allowing self-funding if the exchange was already upgraded (Medstead is) and if the cabinet was not in an existing plan. He thought that as cabinet 12 would probably be in the next plan, it was not worth considering at the moment but waiting until Spring 2015 to know for certain. If cabinet 12 is not included in the plan, the discussion over self-funding and getting BT to quote could take place from Spring 2015. The BT quote process takes 6-9 months and then there would be a further 6 months for the build to be completed. He thought the cost of self-funding would be around £25-30K.
